I, too, am headed to New Orleans. I'm going down to see my grandmother, who lives in Metarie. I've been many times before, but I've always had some kind of family agenda. For the first time ever, I'm on my own for at least a whole day. Wayne's recent NOLA thread has inspired me to think about what else is there. What should I do??

I've done the touristy things like walk around the quarter, see the aquarium and other museums, zoos, take a Pearl River tour and such. I've never seen the Maritime Museum in Mississippi, any state parks or forests, and I've never made it down to the gulf coast or out on the lake.

Is anyone headed out fishing or sailing this weekend with room for an extra hand? I'll be around all day this Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18. I'd love any other interesting suggestions about favorite places to go for a hike or just drive around. Thanks!!

Cheers,
Jeff

I'll have a cell phone with me (617)548-7481 - and I'll be able to check the forum Thursday. Flying down early Friday morning

Jeff,

I'm not being anti-social. You picked the wrong weekend. My family is coming in and every minute is planned. Shucks. I've got your cell phone number in case I get paroled. Sorry.

No problem. Do you have any suggestions about state parks to visit? I'd be intersted to check out some of the southern lowland forests if I can't get my feet wet. I've never seen them before.

Jean Lafitte National Park on the highway between Crown Point and Lafitte. That's on the Best Bank, Dawlin! :D There is a boardwalk into the swamp, trails and maybe a canoe rental.
