Interesting sight on the Choptank River last night - while waiting for the tow boat to pull us off the sandbar (another story), we looked up and saw beautiful bands of red and green in the clear, dark sky. Having never seen the aurora borealis, I could only guess that's what it was. My suspicions seem to be confirmed by NOAA's reports today of strong solar storms and Coronal Mass Ejections that began reaching earth yesterday.

I'll look tonight. It promises to be clear. They are remarkable, and as near as I understand not terribly well understood as to the mechanism. In the past they've seemed like God had taken LSD, and been given a paintbrush :D .

I guess I'm a few days late around here, but we saw the same on the left coast. Around 10:30 pm we noticed 'em, and headed out to the end of our dock, away from the light pollution. Mostly to the north, but intermittently right above our heads. First time i'd seen 'em, quite a sight.
