A while ago David (Meerkat) had asked me to possibly help him by pleading his case for financial assistance through the forum. He is in bad shape financially and now he is undergoing cancer treatment. I know to some of you he is a menace, but he is a fellow formite and he could use our help. Those I have emailed privately know how desperate things have become. The cancer has added additional stress and financial burden. Any and all help for this fellow formite would be a good thing for all of us to contribute too. Trust me it makes us a better community for it.
Those of you who may have disagreements with Meerkat or ME politically or other wise now is the time to put aside your differences and either contribute or say nothing, the latter may be harder for some than reaching into there pockets but let us all try to do our part. I think it may be appropriate to reach a broader audience and post this in open forum.
He has emailed me this much
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm finally done with all the medical tests and, at this point, all I
have is foodstamp and tinsy bit of cash application on Friday. At least
the bit of cash will cover the ISP, the phone and probably enough of
the electric bill (heat, cooking, light) to keep those things going.
Yes, it would be good if you could scout around and see if anyone else
is willing to buy part of the "Save the Meerkat" loan. Thanks beyond
words for your help. I'm not good at these kind of words either... "
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I think it would be a good thing to help this guy out. If anyone wants to help I will be glad to help arrange everything.
I am willing to accept emails on Meerkats behalf and forward his personal information for the purpose of donating. The best way I think is if you contacted him directly.
This is the time for the WBF to shine.
Thank you in advance for all of those who can do what they can.

I believe Meerkat does not have a bank account at this point so PayPal and even checks are going to be a challenge. So, I am willing to act as an intermediary, accepting money in the form of checks or PayPal and then combining the money into a money order that I will send to Meerkat. If you want me to, I will include a note saying how much you contributed or you can forward that information directly to him (or you can remain anonymous). How does this sound as a plan?

Ability levels vary pretty widely, I am told.
One of the best in the country for many years was Goethe Link of Indianapolis. He lived to be over 100, and was a talented amateur astronomer. IU's Link Observatory in Southern Indiana was gifted by him to the University, and is adjacent to the house in which he spent his retirement. It is surrounded by five acres of daffodils planted by Dr. Link and his wife, who survived him.
