According to our hosts who sell the boat in kit form, the 7'-9" version weighs "about 90 pounds" and the 9'-6" version "about 100 pounds." You might ask the folks at the WoodenBoat Store about the capacity.

Which brings up a subject that weighs heavily on my mind. But I'll save it for the Designs/Plans section. When I get my ducks all in a row and I locate my round tuit.

I'm building the Auk - Iain Oughtred's equivalent to the 8' Nutshell. He claims 1 or 2, occaisionally 3. Depends on the conditions. Flat water you could squeeze more into it. I've also got John Welsford's Tender Behind plans. He claims up to five in calm water. I suspect they'd have to be friends.

I'm planning the Auk for two adults or one adult and three kids. Sure, I could squeeze more into it but if I wanted to carry more than that in the choppy water I get, I'd build the nine footer or bigger.

Cheers

we had a 7'7" nutshell pram as tender to our previous yacht..she performed well for us both. David is just over 6' and about 95kg while I'm 5'7" and about 62kg. David and I would often go sailing for hours and while it was a bit squeezie for David..he never complained. We could do 3kts easy in the dinghy. It rows well, take a good load of yacht gear, and also tows well behind the yacht. All up a VERY GOOD dinghy for a multitude of reasons and uses!!!

A 9'6" Nutshell is my present yacht. When sailing, two adults and the usual day sail baggage is about all I care to take as everyone is semi-reclining in the bottom. In rowing mode, however, there is room and spare freeboard for a lot more.
