Well finally after 3 weeks I managed to make the dash back to the smoke to see possumpoop and the hoons... gawd its bloody lonely without them!

Anyways the trip went excellent with noddy {Aaron} enjoying the long drive head firmly ensconsed inside the twin globes of his cd players headset all the way! didnt see any of the scenery or the roos emus foxes and possums we passed and the small wallaby we introduced to the roadside as roadkill... just the thud thud thud of his "music"

I decided to stop along the way and check out a few of the scenes that the longest water pipeline from Mundaring to Kalgoorlie has to offer the visiting... not too shabby some of them with photos and such to look at... although probably the best was out at Coolgardie just west of Kal where the town has a sorta historical photo set up along the town roadside you know permanent stands with photos and written history of the town that you can read? really excellent idea

Anyways all in all a pretty cool trip!

Aaron has grown in leaps and bounds since we left now has his license so is now menacing all and sundry on the roads! has himself a little lady who he constantly visits and talks of ;) and a traineeship in one of the pubs as a cook and loves it... actually its surprised me how fast hes learning what it means to be an adult in an adult world rather than "one of the kids" at home... pays his bills on time and makes sure he contacts and such... good stuff!

Me? well Ive been workin drivin the local bread truck from Coolgardie to Kal and out to Kambalda for the last 2 weeks while the driver has time of for the race week... thats where EVERYTHING stops in Kalgoorlie for the horse races and trots every night and day they have races and man its bloody madness!!! great fun!

The jobs now finished but I think Ive established my "credentials" as a worker and prepared to do whatever it takes to do whatever job they throw at me... bloody first 2 weeks HURT like shite!!!! man I found muscles even ol Arnie woulda been proud of!! and others I forgot even existed... no worries feel damned good about it all and drivin a truck is a bloody good job in my book I'd forgotten in all the years as a counsellor how much I actually enjoyed driving trucks and such... a step back in time to something a bit more easy going less stress and get DIRTY!!! yeeeeeeeeeflaminhaaaaaaaaa! :D

Living in a caravan takes some gettin used to... bloody small eh? strewth not enough room to swing a flamin cat! never mind place to rest ones noggin and sit back after the days done... will do till the next step happens.

mmmmm they have a internet cafe in town apparently but Im yet to find it... but its a thriving town with so much to see I havent given much thought to finding it so far decided to wait till I come down here for a break before I recontact... HEY!! got my emails finally!! shite they build up dont they? 600+ emails in 3 weeks! mostly shite... well all shite actually

One of the things that stands out is the sheer width of the streets out there... bloody hell mates you can turn a roadtrain around without touchin the kerbs!... oh on roadtrains south of Coolgardie the longest allowed is 36mtrs and out Kalgoorlie Kambalda its 58mtrs... now on this matter they are goin for the record in early October on the Broadarrow road north of Kal where theyre gonna try for a roadtrain length of get this 1000mtrs!! shite! the record demands that the truck pulls the train 100mtrs to gain it but these blokes are goin for the length of the truck... the pantecs and train sections are coming from as far away as Geraldton Exmouth Esperance and Albany... goin to be a flamin hoot! and will make sure Ive got cameras in hand on the day! and find a good vantage point... any pointers? this Broadarrow road in flat and only has low mallee scrub so climbin a tree aint an option will see if I can find a truck cabin to stand on... no worries!

So far Ive taken shiploads of pics and will get them developed over the next few weeks so hang tight till the next edition of Dingos Outback Droppins... Id type some more but hey Ive only been home an hour or so so need to spend the next couple of days with this mob so next contact will be in around 3 weeks!

Take it easy
Shane

Remember, living in a caravan is like living in a boat, except you can just step out the door to the ground. Carry on.

Shane!!!!! smile.gif
Good to see you friend. ;)
Hauling bread is considered good work in my neck of the woods. Mostly union, good pay, light cargo, long hours in winter.
My first thought is you're too smart for a job like that but there's a certain peace that goes with driving for a living and collecting a regular paycheck. :D
Best of luck to you as always.
Peace---> Kevin in Ohio

Welcome back, Shane. This board has missed you!

Have a nice visit with your family. I have had to separate from my family for a job before, and it really stinks.

Sounds like you're in good spirits. I hope that things continue in that same vein. Best of luck to you and your family. Please post when you can.

Nice to hear from you Shane. I'm glad things are going well, if lonely at times.

I've often thought that driving local delivery would be a good job. Lot's of time to meditate, learn new things plugged into the dash player, no supervisor looking over your shoulder all day, a circle of various friends. I couldn't do it in a major metropolitan area though; heavy traffic makes me more batty than I already am.

I hadn't thought of the bread angle Kevin; light weight, hey that sounds pretty good. And screw the beneath one, or not challenging enough, or no prestige thing. Those are overrated, and don't do a thing to make one a better person. It's good to be 'underemployed' at some stages in one's life. smile.gif

Good luck Shane, and pop in now and then. Pics!

Hi, Shane..
It's good to hear from you.....
Think of it this way.....for years I worked outside, all over the world, pay was a bit less than indoors....but.....I have only held 2 (TWO) really serious jobs in ,y life....everyday was a long drive..prestigeous office...fancy carpet, had to wear a NICE suit...kept another suit and extra shirt behind the door.....spare shaving gear and the whole kaboodle...hated the folks I had to deal with....Couldn't go on vacation without a lot of permission..where I wuz going, what seat on the airplane...phone calls I made except to direct family......a real BITCH....and this went on for 5 years after retirement....
One day I figured it all out...sitting on the boat my driving miles were less, saved a lot of gasoline, no large cleaning bill for the suits, no tee martooni lunches with idiots (I dunno drink anyways), auto insurance went down...and I figured my take home pay wuz a bit better than the office job..sat on boat, played with dawg, no deadlines, no traffic to fight (ever try the Washington beltway at rush hour) and if I wanted to disappear for a month or two...I could do most of my work by mail....(now e-mail) :D :D :D

- MWhat Margo said (both parts).

You really should provide a translation with every post. That, or start marketing a dictionary. One for your fellow Aussies (I'm sure they need help too), and one for the rest of the world. ;)
