Feeling ice-bound, I am escaping by planning my summer adventure. I am thinking of cruising the Saguenay Fjord (off the St. Lawrence east of Quebec)in my canoe. Do any of you have any experience with the tides and winds on this river? Can one camp on shore with relative freedom? Can one see the whales if one sticks close to shore? How's the fishing?
Thanks for your input.

Dave,
I'll tell you what I know, which is somewhat limited. You can see whales from shore, or the ferry across to Tadousac( oldest Jesuit Mission in North America). Fishing is not recommended as it is (still) one of the most polluted rivers in Canada. The whales suffer all sorts of ailments from eating the fish. There are stretches of the river where the cliffs run right into the water, so finding a bail out spot might be tough. I'd try to find a local Guide service to ask questions about canoeing. It is a beautiful area. Good Luck,
Adam
