Its happened for the 4th month in a row...

Having changed over from dial up with a local provider to broadband with the national provider here and having increadible amounts of hassles and problems with them over the usage meter they stick you with... continually going over our 1Gb limit per month by the 15th of each month at a cost of $75per month... our 4th bill has come in at $150 for the month and would have been more if we didnt hawk our usuage... our usuage for the month was 1169mb so the extra $75 was for 169mb over our limit!

So we have had a family discussion tonight of only those whose use of the internet is over an hour a week unsupervised... and the outcome is that we are contacting the provider tomorrow returning the modem and paying the $400 cutting the contract fee that they will charge us... we will then take a week or so of no internet at all to decide if we actually can justify reconnecting and going on line again at the costs associated... broadband will not be an option again so it would if it happens be the old ISP and dial up which would also incur a major reconnection cost for the second phone line which we had cut off when we got the broadband.

The costs have ballooned out so far as to be over $100+ per month (for the 4th consecutive month) which is $100+ per month that we would rather be spent within the family than spent on the internet.

So Im taking this opportunity to say a hearty and happy fond farewell to one and all... Ive had some absoflaminlutely brilliant times with all me mates here at Woodenboat.com forum and the crew of woodenboat themselves... your all a great bunch of people from some of the most amazing places in the world its been a pure pleasure to enjoy your world for the last 2 and a half years or so.

Thank you for everything from all of us... you have all been an inspiration to me personally and to the family... and a wonderous motivation for my boat building intents dreams and thoughts. Thank you and I know I will miss you all.

I am saying this both here and in the bilge and in a couple of other places I frequent for those who weve had the great pleasure to meet but may not come here... I do so in case we decide not to reconnect as I wont be able to if I dont do it now... if we do reconnect I will change this in a few weeks... I will have email till the 1st September then those that have my mailing address well thats the contact from then on... sorry not on any open forum.

But for now thanks and be happy in life people... remember no regrets as theres only one go round so make it the best you can!

Shane........There has got to be an ISP that offers unlimited online time for a reasonable rate. My ISP offers unlimited time for 20 dollars a month. I think you're getting ripped off. Have you checked with other ISP's? Sounds like the ISP's in your part of OZ need some competition.

Kevin they need regulation!! particularily Telstra our national carrier and ISP... Ive had a bit of a gander around but its going to set us back the present bill plus another 400 to cut out of the contract plus reconnection fees for the second phone line again plus the new ISP charges...

Jo is baulking badly at reconnecting again somewhere else and mate I agree with her!! Theres just too many people in this mob to be throwing hard earned cash out the window like this.

Norm agreed mate... but again no regrets its been aweflaminsome!!

I'd sure like a land address, if you'll email one to me.

Find a way to get on here once in a while. Maybe a friend, public library, you know.

Shane,

You will be missed. Promise us one thing, ok?

Promise? smile.gif

Use the time away from the internet to:
A. Build boats
B. Write about anything that catches your fancy.

Keep us posted.

Cheers, Mate!

I'm still waiting for the audio stories you promised us! Shane, stay on long enough to see the new Fritha thread. I was going to post pictures over the weekend but now I'll do it tonight. Remember the sunset cruise for six on Fritha that I bought in the benefit auction last spring? Well we went out on Fritha today! It was a last minute, spur of the moment thing and I had less than 24 hours to get a group of six people together. And you were just too far away! :(
So good thing for the WB Forum - Chris Coose rearranged his schedule and Huge Lane(Hughman) and his wife Ginger drove down from Rockport. Pictures to follow. Check People/Places

And don't stay away too long!

Shane, I hope you don't have to leave here....we pay Telstra about $24 per month for unlimited hours internet. Don't know what the download limit is but we have never been charged extra. Sometimes our connection speed is slow and we only have the one phone line, but all is still good. So, go ahead and see if you can get by without the net ("doubt it" - me thinks!!!). But you know what a neat and groovy place the forum is!!!
Anyway, take care and we'll 'see' you in a couple of weeks!!!!!!
Bernadette.

Shop around, mate. Surely there's another alternative. We need you here.

Tell you what, my brother in law lives in Fremantle. I'll ask him what he pays -- he's a clever chap with that sort of thing.

Don't sign off just yet.

There's always www.aol.com.au, (http://www.aol.com.au,) which is $25/month for 120 hours, if I understand the pricing page correctly. You have to use the horrid AOL email, but you can use any browser once you've dialed in.

And I'll miss you too!

How about going back to standard dial-up? I'd sure hate not to see a group of Dingo-isms whenever I log on....

Oh! and don't disappear completely - I've still got your back issues (127 thru 150) and will need to be able to find you whenever I can send them.

Say mate, there's the library, and lots of free email services, and heck, a dial-up ain't all that bad, compared to the alternates. I lost our second line here at home (company provided) when they sent me for the big walk about, but we got cell phones so, at least for those in the know, folks can always get to us, even when our one line is tied up. Our ISP charges something under $20/month.

There is always a solution to every (well there is almost always a solution to almost every problem), you just need to do a wee bit of digging.
