Okay, so any plans on getting together somewhere? I'm 99% sure I can make it this time!

Most assuredly, but I'd hope some of our forumites closer to the area would chime in! I'm about 2 hrs. from Madisonville, and don't get that way much, so it's hard for me to say what's a good spot. smile.gif
Would love to see a get-together!

Me and the wife and baby will be there. We loved it last year.

You mean Mardi Gras on the Tchefuncte River? When is it? Don't know if I'll go this year. I'm in the process of shining up some of my boats to be ready for the shows around Mobile next year. And anyway, that Abita beer doesn't sit well with me. Tough stuff. I think Dixie in the steel can was better. lol.

That seems like cool enough weather that camping could be an option (as opposed to doing so in tent in the summer). I went last year and had a good time. The museum is coming along nicely, and, given how many boat shows there are in this neck of the woods, it was well worth the trip.
Jeff, what camping spots did you find?

I'll likely be there with the family, though I won't be bringing the "Bessie Mell" this year, too much going on the next few weeks.
Stay in touch, everyone, and post your plans!

BUMP. Think I'm going to camp at Fontainebleau State Park Fri and Sat night if I can get reservations for me and my tent, plus possibly my Wee Rob. Anybody else going?

Did you try the state park in Madisonville? It may be full, but it's paddling distance from the show.

Yes, I check out the two parks nearby but I'm now considering the state park at Tickfaw, since I'm bringing my canoe and it is on a river geared for that kind of boat. The drive there and back to Austin would be closer on Fri and Sun if I stay in Tickfaw and just go to the show on Sat, and boating on Fri eve and Sun morning. One day for the show seems plenty, based on my experience there last year.

I thought seriously about going to the Madisonville show, but got a little torqued about the $100 registration fee. A little too high-brow for me. Any budget-friendly messabouts coming up in the area?

Myself, the wife, and the baby will either be there on Saturday when they open and spend the afternoon walking the quarter or start at Cafe Dumonde and begin the noon hours there. We will be leaving our house at about 6 AM. My wife loved it last year and hopefully a 9 week old can enjoy the sights as well!

We went Saturday. My daughters, 2 and 9, had a blast (as did our friends' kids, 5, 7, and 10). They've expanded the festival since I last went two years ago, with a much larger kids' area at the baseball field.
A lot of good boats there! Elver #1, as mentioned in another thread. A bunch of old converted Biloxi luggers in various state, from dilapidated to mint. A cute pilothouse sloop, all teak, Hong Kong built. A Stauter runabout/fisherman, built in Mobile, a coupla nice Thompsons. A Princess 22 (B&B). Et cetera! I was too busy chasing our two-year-old to take photos. Someone must have...?
I hope to display a boat there one day. My skiff LUNA has become more of a test bed than a show boat, so I didn't bring her, but mark my words....

Just hearing mention of the Madisonville show makes me home-sick. My younger brother had planned to attend and I requested that he get PLENTY of shots of Venchka's CY... nooks, crannies, the whole bit. His wife had other ideas... Maybe I'll make it next year in person.Specks and reds and campfires and spoonbills and marsh lakes and...

Darren (no longer in the swamp, but wishing I was)Darren,
You stand a better chance of seeing the boat up close and personal. I will be out your way with the boat some summer. In the meantime, I'll put up some more pictures at ImageStaion as soon as I get a Round Tuit.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to "live the dream" in Costa Rica, so I may only be here for another 10-20 years :D

That should be an adequate amount of time to get out to the Pacific North WET!
