YAWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Boy, it's really sloooooooooooooooooooow here what with everybody in Houston at O.T.C.
Ok, wake up, Wayne. Rumor has it that I might be granted a weekend pass from work/mom/honey-do's/etc. the weekend of May 22-23. The wagon/boat/tent are screaming at me to take them somewhere.
Ideas?
Subject to change at the last minute I'm sorry to say. Depends on work and mom.
What is the National Park campground in Ocean Springs, MS like? How far is it from there to Horn Island?

Nothing. I think you will miss Biloxi's boat show by a weekend--have to make your own fun. Visit the Maritime and Seafood Museum in Biloxi--that is always enjoyable--maybe they will have a daysail trip on the schooner--spend money in the casinos... Are you bringing a boat? Go to Deer Island if you are--or any of the barrier islands for that matter. Have fun regardless....

Yes I will have the boat. Is anything happening on Mobile Bay? I wasn't planning to go farther than Ocean Springs and maybe Horn Island if I get real bold. On the other hand...Mobile Bay isn't that much farther.

I just saw your reply--sorry, May is nearly over now. Mobile Bay is a great place to sail even without any activities going on. Fishing is great. We have our own tall ship, the schooner JOSHUA, that you can take day trips on. Museums abound and you can take the Cotton Blossum (a sternwheeler) for a river cruise. There is an airboat which you can take Delta cruises from. Earlier in the month they had a Civil War reenactment at Dauphin Island where the the Battle of Mobile Bay was fought again--do that every year. Let me know if you come and I will tell you where to launch your boat and treat you to a beer at Buccaneer Yacht Club. What size boat will you be bringing?

I'll get over there with my almost 20' Caledonia yawl one of these years! Take you up on the offer of a beer and return a few myself.

Looks like I'll be visiting family in Mobile this weekend and may be able to bring my 12' catboat (that I intend to finish & launch today). Any suggestions for places to launch?

You can launch at the Beachcomber on Dog River by the bridge--that would be the easiest place to find to launch. Fowl River Bridge at Pelican Reef has a launch. If you are familiar with Mobile--McNally Park by Buccaneer Yacht Club is a free launch. You would have to sail out the channel by the club to the bay. Where will you be in Mobile? E-mail me direct and I will give you more explicit directions. Do you have Bobcat or a Beetle? I have Bobcat--
