Erster, don't forget it is summer time and I bet a goodly number of those folks are out on the water. Ola in Sweden comes immediately to mind in that catagory. Short really short summers that far north, I'm thinkin'.

Man, I have had enough of summer. It is too hot for me with the humidity right now on the water. I went this weekend and paying for it now. We had a week of 50 degree weather and it was mighty nice. Even some of the trees were shocked into some color changing. You walk outside and your clothes look like you have taken a shower in five minutes. What a drag.

You know Mike, they say that great minds think alike. With that in mind just last night I was wondering what happened to some of the other regulars. I'll add some to your list of missing:

Garland
Beowolf

and than there is others how stop by only infrequently:

Ishmal
Margo & Dave
Brian Cunnigham
Tom Lathrop

The list can go on and on. Miss 'em all and hope to see 'em back soon.

I don't know where you are, Oyster, but that sounds like Virginia for the past 30 days.

You're always welcome up in this corner, Mike! It had been HOT here on Whidbey--in the high 70s low 80s. Now we're back to the 60-70 range. Of course we pay for it. It's grey, foggy, and drizzly again. But that's what gives Seattlites what passes for a suntan. It's actually a patina of rust.

We'd love to see y'all again!

Thanks Kermit. I found all in your area to be the nicest. I really did enjoy the trip. It looks like it maybe spring the next year before we can get out. I may make a trip in conjunction with a visit to Barb's shop in B.C.

I've been away for a while - Oyster, is that you, Mike of Custom Skiffs? If so, we look forward to seeing you next time you're out this way.

We spent most of the summer in polypropylene, and finally saw golden grass meadows on the last days of our cruise, coming around the bottom corner of Vancouver Island and heading for home. There are sure a lot of beautiful Christmas trees and rain north of here!

Stay cool, dude.

Thanks for thinking of us Chad.

We're here. I check in several times a day and you can count on us both in the evenings. You may have noticed in the last six months or so, Dave's come out of Lurkdom and actually made a few posts. I've been blathering on for so long, I think some doubted his existence. He's really and truly the strength and brains of the operation.

There's just so many posts, I can't even seem to keep up with B&R, much less Misc. Also, there seem to be a lot of topics that I have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. I know it's not necessary around here, but I've felt the need to stand quiet when I don't have anything constructive to offer.

If I had any spare time, I have in the neighborhood of 2000 digital and photo images piled up that I need to sort through and organize the "best of" for the website. Speaking of spare time though, I've set up a website for a friend who's a candidate in a local election, and three guesses who got nominated to take over our class website at the class reunion over the weekend...yeah, I've got spare time by the bucketfull...

Good to hear that Scott's ok. I e-mailed Nora Lee a couple of months ago and haven't heard anything back. Will try her again tonight.

Regards-
Margo

Margo,

I received an email from you a while back and tried to respond. The emails I sent to you all came back undeliverable. Can you get me an updated address?

BTW, how are you liking the Crystal varnish? I'm finding that the more I use it, the more I like it. It's the only varnish I've ever used that actually does what the maker says it will do. The varnish work that I did in April still looks fresh in August. No crazing, no noticable dulling, no lifting or cracking, etc. The coats go on so thick and so fast that it cuts the work time in half. The windier and hotter the conditions, the thicker you can put it on. Amazing. The last work I did came out so good after the fifth coat that it surprised even me. (I'm hyper-critcal of my own work.) I was planning on 8 to 10 coats, but stopped at five (under CPES).

Thanks.

Hi, Scott. Nice to see your thoughts again. There's a legal question that came up during your vacation....it's at http://media5.hypernet.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=005685

Scott - Since the initial "fling" with the Crystal, I haven't touched a varnish brush. No time.

To say we're HUGELY busy (on all fronts - personal, professional, and boats) is an understatement.

I took some pictures of the Crystal work, but never got them posted. I was frustrated because the large pictures don't show the detail and the close-ups didn't show how good the job really came out because of shadows, reflection, etc.

I'm not going to pour out the Epifanes - too cheap for that - but Crystal definately gets my vote.

My other new "best friend" is Minwax Polyshades. At the same time I was doing the brightwork on the outside, I did some touching up below with the Polyshades. Our interior was in pretty good shape, main problems were "sunburn" and wear around the companion way, some discoloration where ice box condensation is a problem, and the occasional gouge and scratch. A little tape, a swipe with 220, tack off, and in some places a single coat of the Polyshades brought it back to an easy 90% of perfect. Even the companionway ladder snazzed right up, although I'll put another couple of coats on that just so I don't have to do it again any time soon. By far the best results I've ever achieved for the least effort. That just NEVER happens.

Our ISP changed hands a few weeks back and have had a few glitches in the transfer, but boatwrks@aug.com should get me.

Take care -
- M
