Well I am back. What a day. Started out sunny and nice, then as the day progressed the wind kept picking up into a gale.At first there were just things blowing around, people trying to keep their tents down, and this tripod rig they had for a bosuns chair demo? It blew over and busted into a million pieces. Luckily there was nobdy in it at the time. When I left Port Townsend there was one boat on the sand beach and 2 bashing on the rocks. There was a coast guard cutter standing by offshore, but they said there was nothing they could do. One boat had a family of people on it as it was bashing on the rocks...cops everywhere spotlights...waves crashing...spray flying everywhere...what an adventure! I am working on my pictures now. smile.gif :(

Yikes!! The weather only seems to cooperate one day out of the three at this show if we're lucky. :( tongue.gif

Tomorrow afternoon looks like it might be OK. It's raining pretty hard right now... :(

Thanks for the pics Tim.

I thought about going down this morning(sat) but it's a bit too long of a day trip for my little boy(who's Two today!).

Does anyone have any pictures of the Kosterbot replica of ELLY.It's being built at NWSWb.

Thanks,Chris.

Windy, wet weather predicted for last weekend – a forecast which did limit boater participation at the Wooden Boat Festival – sent six boats on shore last Friday night. This is one of the boats anchored in sand off the downtown waterfront that drifted ashore. – Photo by Scott Wilson

Thanks for sharing Tim :D There is a boat in the 6th and 7th pics, white lapstrake hull, red cover on the boom. Is that a Chebacco? Anyone know?

Cheers smile.gif

Tim posted this picture:
http://students.washington.edu/hoehnt/001.jpgThat's HECATE RANGER -- she's an ex-BC Fisheries patrol boat, now yachtified. Very ship-like, go-anywhere kinda boat.

She's one of my favorite boats around the sound.

Cheers smile.gif Its not a Chebacco. The best I can tell from looking at the photos in the Festival program is that its a boat named ANDERIDA. That's all I know. There is no info on the designer.

That little green one to the left is a Bill Garden Eel design. She looked great under sail!

Whatta a great festival! It was my first, and it far surpassed any expectation I could have dreamed up. Next year I'll be there all 3 days smile.gif

One of the things the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival does very well lately is that they publish information about the festival boats in their guide. This information is also available on the web. Here's the URL: festival boats (http://www.woodenboat.org/festival/theBoats.htm)

Tim,

Those are great pictures! I miss Port Townsend. I just moved from there about a month ago.

Yorgie, I have pictures of the boat that was built at NWSWBB. What's the best way to post them here?

To post photos here you've gotta link them to a location on another web site, such as Imagestation, which is not hard to do. Search for Photo Posting and find descriptions of how to link them once they're on the other site. Imagestation is a free service, and I think there are other similar services on the web.

http://www.woodenboat.org/festival/Guide/Guide%20images/2004/Anderida.jpg

Anderida is a classic 17 _ foot lapstrake daysailer of late 1940’s or early 1950’s. She is a well-constructed heavy boat built entirely of teak. Anderida was built in Singapore at the John A. Thornycroft Shipbuilding (yard No. 494), the yard responsible for the Royal British Naval fleet then stationed in Singapore. Commander Reginald Lacon commissioned Anderida while stationed in Singapore. Upon retirement, Commander Lacon returned to this family home on Denman Island off Vancouver Island, where she was sailed in the Strait of Georgia and on occasion as far as West Vancouver. As time went on, Anderida was relegated to a barn, and languished until found by Denman Island resident Jean Allan. Jean could see her beauty and purchased her with a view to restoring her. Her restoration plans were never completed; Anderida was stored out of the water in a boat shed for the next 25-30 years. Fortunately, Jean Allan stored Anderida carefully; when I found her she had virtually no rot. I traded Jean two older Lasers (for Jean’s granddaughters) and some cash; a good deal for both parties! While there is always more to do, Anderida was relaunched last summer and is currently spending her second summer at Burrard Marina in Vancouver. She’s pleasant to sail or motor, and there’s a growing family attachment to her. Vancouver, BC

Wow, great pictures. There's one of a Bolger-boat, I know it was featured in the "Shoal draft self righting" article in WB a while ago. How did it look in person? Boatlike or weird like some other bolger boats?

I only wish I would've gone. Last year I told myself next year; this year I said the same thing. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your camera.

GregTo me all Bolger designs look bizzare except the Gloucester Gull Dory which is a very beautiful design. I dont quite understand it :D
