Funding cutbacks are again threatening the closing of the Dismal Swamp Canal route of the ICW in NE NC.

This is the preferred route of sailboaters and of many who have visited the Harbor of Hospitality, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Our community greets boaters with a Wine & Cheese Party, which gives transit boaters a way to get together and trade stories and share information and friendship.

Please contact your representative in Congress and tell them that this canal, which will celebrate its 200th anniversary next year, is not only a very popular route, but one that is crutial to the economy of our little town.

For anyone who has traveled this route you will remember how pristine this stretch of the ICW is, this route has the ONLY Visitors Center that is accessible by boat. You can actually tie up at the center and sleep in the Great Dismal Swamp!

Please take a few minutes and help to save a real treasure!

Regards,

Nora Lee

Gidday there Nora
I was wondering if theres some website or someone collecting info signatures or comments on this where an international could make their feelings known?

I think it was last year when I posted about the local shires rejecting a museum donation by Rolly Tasker and from that I found out that several international people along with people from other states here had lodged their views with the shire {the shire administrator rang me!} this hasnt changed the museum situation which as I understand it is still in limbo... but it did make them sit up and take notice!

If its as you say a meeting place for travellors and sailors through that part of the world then perhaps we from overseas could add our voices to your own?

Hope you and your mob are well Nora
