He knows I can't resist a direct appeal. Well, yes, folks, we are around, but perhaps with a little less spare time on my hands than in previous years. So I tend to keep an eye on the Forum, but I'm not as active posting here as in the past.

No harm in that, it seems to me, the Forum is plenty busy and there are lots of new posters. And we have had a somewhat mixed season. The early summer was very poor, rain rain rain. Then we did get some decent weather, and I posted you two reports from the mighty River Fal, including lots of photos.

This is actually a photo from last year (how can you tell? The real Lulu anoraks will know the answer to this week's puzzle . . .)

Recently we have been very lucky - the late summer and all of September so far has been brilliant with loads of fine, sunny weather. And we have been making the most of it, with sorties down river most weekends. Trouble is, it is now getting a little late in the season, and the evenings are drawing in. Our house-martins have gone back to Africa and there is a nip in the air in the early hours.

Still, life is good sometimes. Lying at anchor in the Ruan River, with no other boat or human soul for miles. The sun is dipping down behind Tregothnan, and a seal pops up to take a look at us, before continuing his leisurely swim downstream with the ebb. Herons and egrets settle for the night in the oaks at the water's edge. And we have a new creek to explore at dusk . . .

Swallows and Amazons for ever!

Getting there matey. got a topcoat on the old snakefullofrabbits so that's progress.I'm even starting to feel fit.My arms like steel beams( they wouldn't bend in the middle after the sanding weekend) now have limited movement.Very handy when it comes to dinner time.It got a bit tedious chucking the tucker over my head instead of in the mouth for a while there.

Glad to know that you miss us, Shane. And John B - yes, that Epoxy is Crap thread. Will I never live it down? Just shows, you see - never rush into print about anything, even on the Internet, or it may come back to haunt you.

Good to hear from you John, and might one be correct if one were to say Lulu has her old companionway hatch on as a clue to to it being last years picture? ;)

John R. Smith, poor man, you can't have deserved this. I went to read the infamous epoxie thread, knowing you only from your mellifluous writing about Lulu. The whole thing made funny reading from the distance of time (ranting, apologies, more ranting, general carrying on) but when I reached the end to find two innocent souls having a chat in the present about the very things (epoxie in the screw holes) that drove the earlier distemper, I had to put my head down and hiccup with laughter. Could you perhaps think of this "hant" as your personal humility potion? I would send you more sympathy but still have the hiccups from laughing.

John R - so good to know that you and Kate and Lulu are out soaking up the sun. I love your posts and thank Wild Dingo for rousting you out via this thread.

Wild Dingo, on another thread you mentioned my handle - the True Love was the yacht that Cary Grant gave to Katherine Hepburn during their first marriage in "The Philadelphia Story."

I can't help it, I am a major Cary Grant fan and so the handle seemed appropriate (I'm also a "girl" and therefore a crush on Cary is not too unusual!)

Keep us in mind when you've a yearning to write John R, we love your stories. Hope you and Kate are doing well on the "other side of the pond." I'm currently reading a VERY abridged version of the history of Great Britain and hope to visit someday.

Cheers! -- TL

True Love is also the name of Ron and Nancy Reagan's boat (also after the boat in the film).

Whatever some here may think of their political principles and accomplishments, they seem to have been a loyal and unswervingly devoted couple.

As a boy, Reagan loved the water, where his poor eyesight wasn't as much of a disadvantage to him. He worked as a lifeguard on the river while in high school or college, and saved seventy-seven people from drowning.
