I know the WB forumites have wonderful power of prayer so I'm asking for your prayers for my dad he is 87 and today had a hip replaced. The basic surgury went good but he is having some trouble recovering from the anesthesia, they just had to put him on a ventilator to help him get necessary systems back running properly. Right now it doesn't sound good, thanks.

I'm sorry Ken. 87! That's longer than I expect to live.

Sometime, when you've had some time to mourn and be with your memories, I'd like to hear about your father's life.

May he rest in the arms of the Lord.

Sorry for your loss. I imagine a man 87 years old courageous enough to go in for a hip replacement has to have had a good attitude toward life, and a good run, worth celebrating. My dad is 82, and another five years isn't likely. My wife's dad died at 87 years as well. He sure got a lot in as well.

I know this is not an easy time for you. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. So many people left so many kind words on my dad's posting --too many for me to recite and re-write here. I just know that I go to the posting on numerous occasions to recharge my strength. All of the love and warmth that was shared with us are now being funneled to you and yours. We are here and we care.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, we really appreciate it. The past week has been extremely difficult not only from the normal emotions because he was our dad, but also because of the outpouring of emotions of his extended ‘family’ of friends who all dearly loved and respected him. This love and respect by all who knew him really hit me hard when even the minister started to loose his voice and shed tears during the church service.
We will be posting a separate thread on dad’s life. But to briefly cover his life here, he spent recreational time on the waters around southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island all his life. He was an Army veteran from WWII, worked at the Naval Torpedo station in Newport before and after his Army service, he was firefighter for 31 years, and after mom passed away 9 years ago he has been doing volunteer work at the Battleship Massachusetts Museum in Fall River.
The Burial service was emotional not only because he was our dad but also because there was an honor guard from the fire department and while in the church his casket was covered with a shroud embroidered with the Fall River Fire Dept emblem, Also in attendance was an honor guard from the Army when the casket was outside the church it was covered with an American flag, at the conclusion of the ceremony they played taps, folded the flag and presented it to my sister. Finally another Army veteran placed a small flag at the grave.
Again thanks to all.
