I will be in San Diego next week on business. We have budgeted 2 days for what looks like a 4 hour job so I think (rather then know) that I will have some time to kill. I could sit in the airport and wait for an early standby flight home (not much fun ), go to a bar or just maybe find some wooden boats or boat shops to go to.

So, does anyone have an idea of what I could go see in San Diego? I'll have a buddy and a car. My preference is to see something up close and personal, that is, something actually built or being built.

Thanks

Bob

Best Bet is the San Diego Maritime Museum on Harbor Drive.
Precious little wooden boat building going on in 'insane Diego'.
The museum is an almost straight shot from the airport and back again.

Monday thru Wednesdays, one of our own infrequent posters Jeff Sarr is usually at work as the only resident shipwright at the museum.
Email me and I will pass on his email address to you.

Check out the Arch Davis website and look for the 26' Lobsterboat, Rebecca. It was built by a San Diegan and it's kept at a local marina. The builder would probably be happy to show it to you. He did a beautiful job.

That boat is in OCEANSIDE Harbor about 35 miles north of San Diego.

Check out Kohler (sp?) Boats on Shelter Island. Intersting place, full of restorations and beautiful Kettenbergs and the like.
