Hi All,
I came home tonight to hear a nice message from Nancy. She appologizes for not following through with people who've sent cards, and expressed huge amounts of thanks to Barbara B for sending along a copy of the Darryl thread.
Lumberdude, I've not forgotten your request, and had it all out when I returned the call, but Nancy didn't answer, so I don't have an answer for you. I did explain it all in the message that I left, however.
She also appologized for not posting to the WBF but she says she's not very computer literate, and that they had a power failure so she needs to call a neighbor over to help her restart the computer.
Thanks all! smile.gif

You good folks should all know that when the map was completed for Nancy, there were masses of names on it. I had originally planned to send her a world map with everyone's name in their location, but discovered that by far and away the largest group of forumites comes from the US of A, so used an American map instead. Couldn't cram everybody in the space occupied by the US on a world map. So the rest of us furriners are in the margins of Nancy's map. I printed out the thread to the point when I sent off the map - I guess it was about mid March.
Lots of amazing people out there, folks. Good on you all.

I came home today to find a message from Nancy awaiting me.
She said she'd, "Got a list of those who donated ... just overwhelmed... need to know how to respond to the group..."
Turns out she's been hospitalized for two weeks, dehydrated, etc, etc.
She does have information on the derivation of Gatsby (the name) and will get that information together. I'll give her a call tomorrow as I just don't have it in me right now.
The world is, yet again, a little smaller place ...
WESTWOOD - Ruth (Kidder) Doorly, of Westwood, died Saturday, April 6,
2002.
She was the wife of the late Paul H. Doorly.
Born in Somerville, she graduated from Stoneham High School and received
her B.A. from Wheaton College and a master's degree in education from
Northeastern University.
She taught in the Westwood School Department for 20 years as a special
needs teacher and was the author of "Our Jimmy," which was the first book
written for children explaining cognitive deficiency.
Mrs. Doorly was the Massachusetts teacher of the year in 1969, a retired
member of the Mass. Teachers Association and the Westwood Teachers
Association. A resident of Westwood for more than 50 years, she was a
member of Life Works and the Westwood Historical Society and a volunteer
for M.S.P.C.C.
I spent a goodly portion of my day at her service. Wonderful person, neighbor (when I was a kid), customer, advisor, teacher, co-learner, friend, lover of the sea...

Thanks for the update, Ed, and many, many condolences for the loss of your friend.
What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly
in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo
in the winter time.
It is the little shadow
which runs across the grass
and loses itself in the Sunset.

As far as I'm concerned, Ed, Nancy doesn't need to feel like she "must" respond.
Just let her know we're here, and she's welcome here any time.
As for the loss of your friend, I can only say that it sounds like you were a good friend to her. There's not much more you can give someone in this life. Try not to feel bad that she's gone, but to feel good that you got to spend the time with her when she was here.

Oh, yes.
"It is the breath of a buffalo

You made my day with that one, Roger.
