What about these boats, guys? Since it's pretty much hot-stove season in the northern hemisphere we're going to need something to keep us going besides John B's amazing adventures and pics.

What news?

Daring to speak for Chad: Chad and I went to look at the catboat about two weeks ago. A few days afterward he sent me a note that he wasn't going to pursue it any further. I think that was a good decision on his part.

Like John said we are not going to pursue the cat boat at this time. We met Bill and his buddy Tony at the marinia and gave her a good once over. Both guys are great guys and they would just like to see the cat get a good home.

But with the season and things going on and the work involved I couldn't see dropping money into her. As John hints at she needs some work and I'm not prepared to commit myself into that kind of financial commenment.

I hesitate to post these photos, but I will. The cat has potential, but would need a dedicated owner to do some hard and serious work.

Chad, you are right to post the pictures. It's best for people to see what it is that they're getting. All that I saw was some work, and wooden boat maintenance is so much a part of my life that it's just another job to me. For the right price that could be a fine little boat. Keep looking. Something'll come up.

Joe, looking forward to it.

Joe, why haven't you emailed my about getting more info on the Wianno Sr? She is the perfect boat for you. I know it's a bit of cash, but really, you need to throw caution to the wind on this one...You could tow her and launch her yourself, they are very stable great family boats, looks to die for, etc.

BTW, my email address is in my profile ;)

Mickey;
Allow me to use your thread to canvas Forumites on OPAL's behalf.
There has to be someone here who would take care of an honest catboat. I've known her for many years; sailed on her, launched her, painted her, spilled some wine on her. She never sank, never had an accident, but on a stiff breeze she still gives a thrill. Her old Volvo always runs well and adds to her panache.
I don't want her to leave Knoxville but we dont have many woodenboat freaks here. Actually, I may be the only one and SWMBO reminds me that we have twice as many boats(John Bell included a couple photos of our Bolger knockoff sharpie ketch in his letter above) as bathrooms and that's the limit so I cant take OPAL.
Bill has taken delivery of his new clorox bottle and he and his family are enjoying all the shiny gadgets so OPAL is just sitting on a mooring and its getting cold.
We were disappointed that Chad didn't take her but it obviously will take someone who is willing to keep her up.
Bill will help in any way for the right person. He almost cried when someone suggested that a local restaurantuer might cut it in half lengthwise to use in his bars.
I suggested to Bill in the beginning that this would be the right place for someone to adopt the boat.
Somebody please prove me right;
Thanks;
Tony Zucker

Tony, feel free to post anything on any thread that I start. I understand your position completely. Trying to find a good home for a beloved old boat is difficult at best.

One suggestion: start a thread here explaining what it is that you want. And don't get too discouraged. One thing that I've found out about this bunch (the WBF group) is that there are two main groups. One group is very particular about boat construction, finish, etc.. Another group appears to be neophytes who don't really know what it is that they are looking at. What you need is one of the former who is willing to do some work, or one of the latter who is willing to learn. Either way, it might happen.

From what I can see your boat is one that can be sailed and worked on little by little. For a person on a budget, who has a few tools and a little time, but wants to go sailing, it looks like a steal. Heck, if I didn't have so many boats I'd come take a look.

I wish you the best, and of course, the best for 'Opal'.

Noah, Thank you I confuesed you with Hoboltz because he emailed me and I responded to another Wianno Sr out on LI.
Which when he went to go check on it , it was gone :(

Wianno Sr's are a INCREDIBLY beautiful boats. And yes I am interested but after just spending $4,000 on a new boiler for the barn and the $1,000 for oil in both tanks Im much lighter in the pockets than I was when this search started. Tell me a little more about this boat and its location. Wianno Sr are truly my kind of boats. A little small in the cabin but they make up for it in the beauty of the boat. Are they trailerable ?? I only need to be able to haul it out and put it in my NOW HEATED smile.gif barn seasonally

Tony glad to see you post here. I would love to be able to take her on, but right now things just ain't working in my favor. I hope you can help Bill find a good home for her.
