He last posted as Mike Field on the 19th of October and as Wooden Boat Fittings on the 20th of November. He often extacts himself from this place. I hope there's no cause for worries.

Mike's on the move from Western Port, Victoria to Canberra, our national capital. I will try him tonight and pass on the progress. He has to move boats and business too and I think has taken on some consultanct work. Hope he doesn't mind me passing this on.

Edited for spelling, my typing's gone to pot!

That's good to know.

I've not been on as much as before, but tonight, after posting on StevenBauer's Books for Christmas thread, I saw a picture in the book Jamie/Uncas and I were discussing that brought to mind several ways Mike's knowledge and kindness have touched my life and I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen him post.

Mike - when you see this, here's my wish that all is well for you.

Thanks guys!

- M

What a good move ... and well recommended. Jeff do you know if Mike has been here, during the last few weeks?

When I was launching a FF two weeks ago, I met a chap who looked familiar. We only passed pleasentries over the water from a short distance and I wonder if it could have been Mike. He was coming off the water as we were starting. The chap's boat was an old ex Tasmanian Forestry work boat that he had restored, so he said.

I'd not seen the chap or boat before in these parts and I only had time to discuss the varnish on his boat before we sailed off. The chap was dressed in old fashioned sailing clobber. Like a riverboat Skipper from the 1800's.

Time will tell.

Warren.

If Mike is into fibreglass repairs he will make a fortune in Canberra.

I'd better get him on over to the Yacht Club soon for some fish and chips otherwise he wil lose the smell of the sea from in his veins.

... and we can discuss the two wooden boats here in Canberra, . His and mine.

Hello friends,

Yes, Jenn, Canberra, and consultancy it is. Thanks to everyone for your concern. And of course particular thanks to you, Margo. (And your wish is most heartily returned.)

Yes, new city, new family, new life. Those seventy boxes of books are still unpacked, along with quite a bit of other stuff, the last two weeks having been given up (used? invested? squandered?) in doing some consulting work for our Immigration Department. (Don't spread it round, but consulting pays better than wooden boats....)

Aileen Louisa is up here with me, but I've regretfully decided to put Sanderling on the market. She was built for shoalwater cruising, and to move her from Western Port to anywhere other than perhaps the Gippsland Lakes would really be criminal. But while sailing on Lake Burley Griffin or Lake Tuggeranong is no doubt going to be fun, I somehow don't think it's going to be quite the same as sailing on Western Port.

Wooden Boat Fittings has of course moved here too, and we're presently handling a short but catholic list of orders for bronze, timber, and bunting.

'Twasn't me, Warren. But was this the boat? If so, I saw her on the Creek just over a year ago.

I'll take you on witb the fish, chips, and Yacht Club before long, too. Sorry I haven't made contact earlier. I've been up and down six or seven times since autumn, but it's always been in a tearing hurry, with no time for anything but the bare essentials. (Hh'mmm....) Actually, I've got a cousin in the next suburb who I haven't seen for about thirty years, and he still doesn't know I'm here yet.

Chuck's right with the address, except that the first line was somehow spirited away -- it's 43 Fincham Crescent, Wanniassa, etc. But we're altering telephone lines here to accommodate two offices with one each of everything (Jenn's (http://www.jenngen.com.au) a consultant too,) so presently the phone number is 6296 3565, while the number Chuck originally had is now for fax. (Both computers will be on ADSL, and I won't know meself.) But the numbering's still being juggled with, so stand by for further changes.

Three wooden boats in Canberra now Warren, if you count my kayak....

Thanks to all for your concern, and best wishes for the holiday season to everyone.

G'day Mike. I hope you are settling in well.

The boat mention was sail powered and beautifully restored, so I presumed she could have been yours. There are a few wooden boats in Canberra more than I hinted at. Some of them are a bit slippery too, the Traditional Boat Squadron does their bit to preserve the wooden boat heritage but as you have no doubt noticed ... welcome to fibreglass boat city.

Warren.

Mike, this is the boat. I met her again when she was on her way to a Xmas party on Sunday ... I like party girls.

Her name is Whimbrel,
