I just had an interesting e-mail exchange with the festival coordinator. It seems that a lot block of invitations and applications were lost (no one is saying who) and a significant number of previous attendees were not invited to this year's festival.
So, if you were waiting for an invitation and like me and didn't get it, it isn't going to happen. I figured, since this is an invitation only event, Opal just didn't make this year's list. Well, not so, I got an e-mail asking why she wasn't going to be there and the saga commenced. Anyway, any of you on the left coast feeling left out, give the festival a shout at festival@woodenboat.org to find out what happened. They need anyone who wants to attend and hasn't registered to get in touch by August 1st.

That's quite interesting. I put in a last minute ap and she asked if I was responding to the letter they sent out looking for more applicants and extending the deadline until the August first. I just thought the reponse must be down a little this time.
BTW, are you going to be up this way sometime, I've still got your GPS antenna and would love to get it back to you.
I hope to see you and Opal at the show.

I am taking OPAL to the show. Think I'll leave Des Moines on Tuesday's big ebb and hope to get to Schilshole (sp) before the flood gets to big. Go to Port Ludlow the next day and then show up at Port Hudson around noon on Thursday the 4th. It's a long sail unless we get a front from the south. How about you?
By the way, Jamie, this year the Lake Union Show was the largest it as been in many many years. I had four boats rafted off Opal.

Sounds great! I was very sad to have missed it. Sadly there are different parts of my life that keep coming into conflict, one of which is the concurrent scheduling of the Lake Union Festival and the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes at Port Townsend. It is to the Old Time music community what the Lake Union and Port Townsend festivals are to wooden boaters. It is part of my life that I have returned to and it is an extremely important event for Betsy. Marriage breeds compromise and that leads us to hit Fiddle Tunes and WBF Port Townsend. So it goes.
We'll be heading up from Shilshole Thursday around noon. See you there.

Stephen,
Are you bringing Waxwing down by any chance? I'd truly love to see her.

I am new to this wooden boat fever and just learned of the importance of Port Townsend .I have a recent an aquaintance/friend who built his boat there 20 some odd years ago, sailed the world in it for 18 years and is currently in the Northeast area.Good luck to you all and remember the photos.Dan L.

There's a new list of boats with applications received at the WB festival site now. Some are shown to be accepted into the show and others not yet. They have to go through the selection process this weekend I guess. It was interesting to see that the privateer replica Lynx isn't yet selected for the show. You'd think that if they want to bring it the show would welcome it with open arms. Maybe it's a matter of dock space as there are already a bunch of big boats including Adventuress and the Lady Washington. You can check out the list at http://www.woodenboat.org/festival/theBoats.htm .

Jamie - I don't own Waxwing - never have.
I think I got a pic of her when I was sailing on another boat one year at the Victoria show though.
I used to own the Gamester II, which is now in PT. Haven't seen her for a long time though - hope she is being kept up. I might make it to the show - but unfortunatley on foot and not by water....

Oops, it's been a while since we've corresponded. The picture of Waxwing formed a tenuous connection in the brain cells.
I'm glad to see you still lurking around the Forum.
