Maybe I can help a little bit. The Alan Buchanan I knew of, a yacht designer, was located in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, England.

I contracted with him to have one of his designs, a Spartan, built at Burnham-on-Crouch in 1959 and imported to me in the US. It was a good little boat.

His firm may still be there.

Like AHP, I too assume you mean Alan Buchanan, the designer (amongst many other beautiful boats) of my YM 3-Tonner, Sanderling.

He's now on Jersey, and his contact information is --

ALAN BUCHANAN
La Ville Au Bas
St.Lawrence
Jersey
Channel Islands, UK
Tel: 001144 15348 65536, Fax: 001144 15348 64698

I daresay he's in his 90s by now, but he was still designing a year or so ago and I imagine he still is.

One of the great designers; there are some very, very good boats by Alan Buchanan, and I have never heard of a bad one.

Paul, of Buccaneer Boats, Redruth, who built "Doris" for us, told us she was a Buchanan design. Oh yes, Mike, there is a YM 3-tonner down at Mylor at the moment.

There you are, John -- I knew we had something in common other than just the mud in our respective creeks and on our respected selves.

Is the 3-Tonner at Mylor a bilge-keeler too, do you know?

She's back in the water now, Mike, so I can't check - but I had a feeling she had a long keel.
