The fishing boats started bashing ice at about 0500.They must have gear in the water.
I woke up the delicate sound of a 400Hp Cat diesel, backing and filling somewhere(I thought some long-haul trucker was lost and turning around where he shouldn't)
I'll try for pics when there is more light.

I was down at HR's place yesterday noon to have a gander at his Euna Mara a-buildin', and his neighbour was heading out to sea with a few lobster traps to "test the waters". Yup, spring is coming - even though it is snowing this morning. :(
Today will tell the tale - my neighbour is out picking up his traps this morning (and doing a bit of scalloping as well, I suspect). If all goes well, we should see the rest of his traps going out and lobsters hitting the supper table soon  !
Mornin', HR. Want me to send the pics I took yesterday to ya?

I flew to Edmonton and back yesterday, and it was quite clear over Lake Huron. In the Channel to the Sault I saw an icebreaker making a channel for a freighter. I could see movement from 35000ft, so they were obviously making good speed. Not that much ice on the open lake.
But I went to check the tarps on Drake last Friday and there was still snowmobile traffic in the harbour.... sigh....

Having spent close to 5 hours aboard Elisabeth Grace last Saturday afternoon, I can't begin to imagine what it is like up there in the Frozen White Country. It was really unbearable when the wind died about 3 and we spent the next 2 hours drifting back to the launch. I need to get a Bimini top! :D
No worries, Ya'll get the last laugh along about August when it's cool up there and I will be burnt to a crisp down here!
