Since there seems to be some misinformation about the hell angels in canoes and kayaks, I submit to you some info and invite many in the area of the Crystal Coast of North Carolina to visit and paddle yourself.

Hatteras lighthouse.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

Located on Cape Lookout National Seashore, the CAPE LOOKOUT LIGHTHOUSE was built in 1859.

Its black diamond markings are said to have been intended for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, but were painted here in error.

Standing 169 feet above ground level, it was damaged by the Confederates in 1862 during the Civil War. Capable of being seen for a distance of nineteen miles, it continues to signal the whereabouts of the dreaded Cape Lookout shoals.

By the way, didn't you spend a little time in the National Park Service in our area?

Actually the ponies belong to the government, so they think. We have had them come in and sterilize them and remove them after living on the banks for a century plus. We fought for their survival on Core Banks. In the interest of preservation, the govenment wished to remove them and to place so called cottages on the barrier islands to preserve the land. [wanted to take over the land and create rental housing to the tourists]. It will happen. Its just a matter of time.

If anyone has been to the outer banks and can see what has happened to the dunes with development, this is the only part left that is truely sand dunes and nature at its original setting left in our area.

Oyster, I'll be in Corolla this Friday, for a week. I'm definitely doing some kayaking and some sailing on the Pamlico. Of course, I'll be visiting the Corolla Lighthouse, just like every year. Used to be wild ponies in Corolla, too, before they moved them.

I hope the weather gets better or you will be snorkeling in the kayak. Its about 30 knots right now at my house and suppose to be 50 by night fall. The horse population is slowly being reduced every year, sadly. They are the toughest creatures to withstand Mother Nature day end and day out.

By the way, you had better bring two weeks of bug spray for a weekend stay. This is the worse year ever for mosquitos.

Ham and shoulders didn't come from me. But someone has the shank portions from my legs. It is blowing around a steady 30 and they still look like a pepper shaker has turned over on us. I can never recall them this bad.
