Well, I got promoted and I'm moving the family out of state. Anyone know anything about the Denison/Sherman Texas area? I've heard that they have a big sailboat regatta every year on lake Texoma. The lake is only about 10 minutes away.
This may just be my opportunity to get back into wooden boats!! (really, that's the only reason I even wanted to get promoted:))

Sherman is about 100 miles north of where I live. You'll love the lake. Texoma has 580 miles of shoreline, about 75,000 acres....a big lake. Great for kayaks along shoreline. Welcome to Texas!

Welcome to Texas! You'll like it. You might never have to go to Dallas, but it's nice to know it's there when you need a city fix. Allen, Plano & Richardson have everything you'll need that you can't find in Denison/Sherman. If you are also into bicycles there are two great shops: Richardson Bike Mart & Plano Cycling (where I bought my new bike last year).
I feel a WBF, north Texas branch, messabout on Lake Texoma in the making. :D

Hi Kory,
Good to hear your still at it. Good luck with your move. What are you doing now for a living, still in the lumber business.

KoryKory,
I could be in the market for some of that. Give me a shout (PM or email) when you're up and running in Texas.

Lake Texoma, just about 15 minutes from Denison is pretty much the best lake in the North Texas area, especially for all round use from general boating, water skiing, sailing, to camping and striper fishing (lots of small mouths too). Also great fishing below the dam for stripers.
On the Texas side you start at the Dam and Eisenhower State Park and as you go west, there are several marinas with boat slips and marina services (Mill Creek, Cedar Mills, Grandpappys, etc). There are many many inlets to anchor and camp at night and there are plenty of islands that folks like to run out to and camp during the good weather (about 8 months of the year).
A good all round lake but I am not that knowledgable about the sailing events and regattas.
You'll really like Texoma.

Just fifteen minutes south and I am there. Twenty minutes west and I am at Alberta Creek on Lake Texoma. Not a bad place to be in my opinion.
And by the way, if you get the chance, go to Cedar Mills Marina and take a look at the Valiant Yacht Factory. Good Stuff.

Man, I'm getting more and more excited about getting down there after your posts about Lake Texoma! I've been down a few weekends now, looking for houses, and I really think I'm going to like the area. Denison's houses are much cheaper I'm finding, than Sherman, so that is where we will anchor for now.
I'll be down there in an apartment or hotel or something by the 16th of January. Hopefully my house will sell quickly and we can get this thing movin!!

Even though you are a wooden boat enthusiastyou will still admire the Valiant Yachts at Cedar Mills Marina...they are real world cruisers. I think the Valiant 42 comes in at around $350,000, but they make a great fiberglass boat.. . world class.

I have a lumberyard and doorshop here in Denison and yes it is a wonderful place to live. Just don't expect to see many wooden boats on the lake. The regatta is out of Grandpappy Marina in April. Shoot me an email and let me know what company you are coming to work for. Also if you need help with a duplex or anything let me know. Welcome to the area!!

I'll say one thing, I completely underestimated how much I would miss my family!! I've only been away from them for 2 weeks, and I'm having trouble focusing on things!
We're close to getting a house, and I'm getting started with figuring out all I need to do at work. Another month or so, and I'll be able to venture out to the lake area and other places to look around!
