Does anyone know of a source for 4" bronze bow chocks? I have only been able to find stainless steel or galvanized iron. If I cannot find them, I may make some out of wood, but would prefer the bronze. Thanks for any info...

Bristol Bronze has some items in your size range. You could also make wooden patterns and have BB or a local foundry cast them for you.

www.jamestowndistributors (http://www.jamestowndistributors) .com has both 5" and 6" ones in their catalog. Would that do?

I just bought a beautiful pair of 5" polished bronze ("gunmetal") handed fairleads (aka "skene chocks") from Classic Marine.

I like these a lot better than the Buck Algonquin ones I bought from Jamestown but never installed.

I am sorely tempted to offer to cast some for you. I need some for my Penoscot 14 and plan to do them in the September/October time frame. Do you have any pictures, drawings or something for a pattern? Is the picture above OK?

If the logistics work out, maybe we can get something done.

You can buy bronze bow chocks from both Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend Washington and from the Port Townsend Foundery. Both have web site and can be Googled.

Thanks all for the helpful info and quick replies. I called Hamilton Marine, and they had a pair on the shelf, although I think they are a discontinued item because I did not see them in their online catalog. Very reasonably priced, too. I have bookmarked the other companies websites, and will check with them in the future as needed.

Don, was it easy or difficult to order from Classic Marine, given that they are overseas? How long was the delivery time?

Bob, mine are also for a Penobscot 14 that I just launched in June. I still have to finish up some things, but I have been rowing it anyway, and it rows absolutely beautifully. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.

Thanks again everyone!

Kevin,

Classic Marine usually ships the same day. I think the cleats arrived within four days. Payment can be made by credit card. If you have any questions, contact Moray MacPhail at the CM website. He's very helpful and knowledgeable and replies fast.
