I'm restoring a 1939 15' Lyman "Fisherman" that has lines as lovely as any Lyman I've ever seen. I need to locate a "proper" inboard engine to complete the restoration, I believe the original was a 3.7 HP Lauson single cylinder. Any leads would be appreciated.

That sounds like an awesome project. Lymans are my favorite boats and I am resoring a 1961 16 foot outboard. Have you contacted the Lyman organizations? The Lyman Boat Owners Assoc. or The LBSNA? Tom Koroknay (AKA Doc Lyman) may have some helpful info for you too. I can post their websites if you're interested. Please tell us more about your project.

Lauson was purchased by Tecumseh Power Products (the lawn mower engine people) in 1956. In 1995 they published an interesting brochure about the company history. Contact your local dealer they might have copies of it or try Google. An oldder engine dealer just might have an engine in the back corner. An additional bit of info, in 1941 they started making a 4 stroke outboard (and you thought the latest rage in outboards is a new idea) :D . If you can't find a copy of the brochure I could copy mine. Someday if you are around Candia, stop in to see TALLY HO II and I could also show you a 1941 Lauson outboard :D .

Sounds like a lovely boat! I think I've seen one or two of what you are looking for come up on Ebay over about the last year & a half or so, that's about it. I hate to say it but I think they may be 'scarce as hen's teeth'. Good luck.
