View Full Version : Circuit Breaker Panels
Anyone have a good source for basic breaker panels, i.e. plain black panel with chrome toggle switches? I thought these would be easy to find, but apparently not. The Blue Sea products are nice, but for aesthetic reasons, I'd like to stay with something more like the original (c. 1963).
If I do have to resort to a more modern version, is there any advantage/disadvantage to toggles v. rocker switches, or is it simply personal preference. Thanks, all.

is there any advantage/disadvantage to toggles v. rocker switches, or is it simply personal preference. I think it's personal choise, but my reasons for toggles are..
...ON is Up or to the right...
...OFF is easy to do to all with one fell swoop of the hand
...toggles have a more pronounced detent
...rockers are hard to see whatz on and whats off

Whatever panel you get, save an empty and label it "Warp Drive"

The Blue Sea breaker panel uses an integral circuit breaker, which can also act as an on-off switch. It's a kind of toggle, but not just a switch. The chrome-style toggles usually are fused, with a separate switch, as are most of the rocker-switches I've seen. Problem is these days, most of the plain fuse-toggle panels are pretty cheaply made, and the rocker panels seem (to me) to be worse. I've never seen a circuit breaker operated by either a regular chrome toggle, or a rocker switch. I generally prefer the integrated breaker for reliability. The fuses have about five contact points to go wrong in a marine environment.
