We are bringing Lean-To, a Devlin converted fishing troller, north to Seward in June. As part of the pre-trip planning, I am looking for someone to do a pre-trip inspection of the Detroit 4-53. It is in good shape, fires right up, no smoke, etc. but for a journey of this distance, we want it checked out. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations based on their experience with vendors in this area. I would prefer to have recommendations rather than blindly going through the Yellow Pages. Timeframe for doing this piece would be the 3rd week of March when my son will be down there doing some other prep work. Thanks!

Hi Chad, hope you are doing well! smile.gif I would recommend Inlet Diesel, they are in the phone book. I used to work for them years ago and they have a solid reputable staff. They are in Olympia, so it would be very close to Sam's place. smile.gif

Thanks for the referral Capt. Jake! I do appreciate it. smile.gif Lean-To is actually at the marina in front of Budd Bay cafe so this referral should work out well. In May we are going to take her over to Sam's rail and freshen up the bottom and topsides and a few other maintenance items. My son is just helping me get a jump on some of the other things that could be done at the dock. I'm doing well and am looking forward to this trip! Thanks again...

Yup, I've seen Lean To several times and been aboard once. Does this mean you sold your Scoter?

Hmm; Dipper to Surf Scoter to Lean To, stepping up again. ;) ;)

Yes, we sold the Scoter 1.5 years ago to a couple who uses it rather extensively out of Homer. This is as far as the step-up goes though. smile.gif It should be a great vessel for exploring the Kenai Fjords. My son lived aboard her while he was working with Sam's crew for 9 months last year. He did that while he was trying to decide what direction he wanted to go at this point in his young life. As a part of that process, we now have a 20 foot version of the Honker in our garage, which is still a work in progress. It was an apprentice project while working with Sam and his crew and then he towed it up the Alcan. We hope Lean-To brings us a lot of enjoyment. We are exploring the possibility of chartering her out but we will have to see.
