SWMBO just got back from Costco, with a 10# bag of softball sized Vidalia's for $7.99, and they are delicious! We now have 2 sets of pantyhose, stuffed with onions (knotted between each onion) hanging in a cool dark dry closet. We're also having appetizers of Vidalia slices with thin slivers of good Parmesan. Is this a great country, or what?

Food, yes, talk about food. Now thats a real genuine product to make eating fun. This is my type of thread. Wrap onion in aluminum foil with butter bits and grill to perfection. This is just a little bit of heaven on Earth.

Not just any onion Shane, Vidalia onions. Almost as sweet as an apple. A spring delicacy here in the states.

My favorite use is as a thick slab on a burger, along with lettuce, tomatoe, a little mayo, a little ketchup. Toasted kaiser roll. Mmm.

Where does one find these onions just went to both local grocery stores and they didn't have any.

Charli,

Ask the produce manager. It could be they were just out? They've been in all the groceries here for a couple weeks.

the best way is to cut in thick 1/2" slices, stick with a skewer to hold together, drench in olive oil, grill until lightly charred and sweet. Mmm.

great, thanks a lot--I just finished dinner and now I'm hungry again lol

Vidalia (pronounced vigh-DAHL-yuh) sitting on top of, and underneath a good, thick, bloody steak for an hour, with salt and pepper smeared into the steak... grill over a charcoal ( real men don't use gas grills) fire. When the onion starts to caramelize, flip 'em, and the steak. cook some more, until the steak is as firm as the "karate chop" part of your hand. Pull em off the grill and slice the steak razor thin. serve with asparagus, and taters. MMMMMMM!

Take a medium Vidalia and core it. Stuff the hollow center with butter and dash of salt, then wrap it in aluminum foil. Cook it on the grill for about 30 minutes over low to medum coals until the outside is well caramelized. Yum.

Mrleft8, you've got good plan there, gotta try it myself.

Thanks for your reminder about Vidalias. Having just moved to Georgia it was most timely. I immediately went out and bought some. One question, when you bake them in foil do you remove the skins?

I used to live in Brunswick myself.

Regarding the skins, you need to peel 'em. The best part is the caramelized outer layers. If you leave the skins on, then you deprive yourself of that pleasure.
