Hey y'all....
I just discovered that Capt. Herreshoff's "Common Sense of Yacht Design is back in print....
it's available at http://www.dngoodchild.com
I have no interest in this site or the bookseller except to further the word of the availability of these fantastic volumes..

Very interesting book. Worth reading more than once. If I didn't already have a copy, I'd buy one.

Amongst the guys I have worked with, the books were always referred to as "The Sacred Writings".

Goodchild out of Philly is doing a wonderful job. I picked up a book on knots from him, circa 1890's, and it is really useful. Plus, if you send him an out of print book, he may well be able to add it to his catalogue.

I'd urge everyone to snag a copy while it's available. The hardcover original is now going for three or four hundred bucks, or was. David Goodchild is good people and a "fallen away forumite." I sure would like to know how he got authorization to reprint it. It was published in the seventies, just after LFH's death. (It has a forward started by LFH and finished posthumously by Mr. Spector of WB fame.) I would have thought that the Herreshoff estate would have kept the copyrights. Maybe they did and he's paying them royalties, who knows?

Has anybody who ordered this received it? Damned if I have. What bothers me more is I've been emailing for two weeks to find out if the book's been shipped, with no reply. Ordered late March or early April. Hope he's away on holiday or sump'n.

I got mine about 5 weeks after I placed the order. When I called to inquire about the delay, they said they had to do a second printing because of the number of orders. It's a very nice book.

David Goodchild has a feature on his site that intrigues me. You can get a book reprinted with yourself or someone else as the character. For example I could order Dave Carnell and His Flying Machine instead of Tom Swift.
David had a series in MAIB years back on "Building Toad Hall", a mini-mini ocean crosser. I think the years may have caught up with him.

also back in print is HERRESHOFF of BRISTOL - the undisputed pictoral and historical text regarding the company and product of the 'Wizard of Bristol' who we all admire. Though heavily under marketed, this gem of a publication is available from the Herreshoff Marine Museum for much less than a first edition (and some say the pictures are clearer).
