Well at the risk of sounding cheesey.....
I did something I never thought imaginable: I bought wood..virtually. (I can hear the gasps, but wait....)
:You all dont know me, so you dont know that I am obsessive when it comes to the qaulity of my wood....every last imaginable detail. In fact, when I lived near San Francisco, the Hardwood lumber dealers used to cringe as I pulled board after board after board (yes, I DID put them all back nice and neat).
Anyhow, I am digressing.
I ordered figured Mahogany 4/4 7"x48" stock off a web site on friday, it arrived today and it was EXACTLY as pictured and verbally described. I called the company regarding some boards featured on their site and made them do a moisture reading, look for checking, warp, cup, twist, etc etc etc.
I held my breath, I ordered. They arrived today, well packaged to surrive ....and they were everything I dreamed of ..and then some.
So....Not that I advocate everybody ordering their own wood sight unseen, so to speak...
but for those of us that are a bit remote and unable to easily find the woods we seek, I completely stand behind this experience. The selection and photo's on the web site are A-1, their customer service ( I spoke with Jim) was completely forthcomming, and they came...fast! Prices....well judge for yourself, not cheap, but not insane. After talking with them, I found out they are happy to snap pictures of other stock not already on the site, just tell them what you are looking for.
Disclaimer: I dont work for them. I'm not related to anyone who does work for them, and I dont even live in Oregon, let alone Portland where they are located.
Is this considered bad form to post? I hope not.
I just know there are other poor deprived builders out there who need wood porn :D
