I use a Porter Cable detail sander no problems or complaints. I does get a lot of use. Very handy tool.

Alas, I have one each of the Porter-Cable and the Bosch detail sanders and I've used a friend's Ryobi. They are among the most useless tools I've ever used.
For my Xmas gift, i bought myself a Fein (the variable speed model). It's delightful. The saw blade that came with it was a pleasant surprise.

Fein. You won't look back, but the various little bits are pricey
It will do stuff that I've not found another to duplicate.

Ditto Ed's comments. The paper's also pricy at first glance, but with the dustless attachment, it just doesn't load up. Even the regular PSA paper lasts longer than anything I've ever used.
I've also got a Ryobi. It'll get into smaller spaces because it's body is smaller, but the Multi-master rules.

Fein - The only thing bad about it is price.
It is the only sander that can sand parallel to an edge w/o bouncing along it (ex. a panel edge on a raised panel door).
Also - the cutting tools are perfect for flush cuts.
For those who own variable speed models - have you ever used greater than full speed? I don't know anyone who has, the non-variable speed model is less $$$

Fein? It is a great little tool and suprisingly effective for what it is but I'd hate to have to sand more than nooks and carnies with it. It is a valued supplement to my 5" Bosch random orbital sander.

The Fein is about my favorite tool. Many of my friends find it their favorite tool so it gets around. But I have good and conscientious friends and it tends to come home with more attachments than it went out with.
Fear not bending or shaping an attachment to fit a specific job.

The fein. Period. My finger's actually say 'thank you' every time I use it.

I love my Fein, being able to use it as a detail sander is just an added bonus.

In my shop the Fien is refered to as the "wunderwazzit". The best hands down, worth every penny.

One of our number described the Ryobi as being more appropriate for adult entertainment.
We should only make $15 mistakes. Don't compound it by buying $50 worth of media.
