While searching for information on four-fold rules, I discovered a Canadian invention called the RascalRule. Looks like quite an item.

Made of fiberglass composite, has a bubble level built in, a protractor, works as a square, does %grade, opens to 24" and folds to 7". Lowest web price is $12. There's an aluminum version, but I haven't found a price on it yet:

I think I'll just leave the old Stanley's alone, and try a RascalRule.

Too many beautiful boats to count, Robertson head screws and now the Rascal Rule. We owe our Northern Cousins a big "Thanks. Hey".

Ouch! Just got a reply from the company. $125CA plus S&H from BC, for the aluminum model. They sell it direct. Too rich for my blood.

The cheaper RascalRule arrived. It appears to be very toughly constructed.

The material is fiberglass/mineral-filled (?) nylon composite. The hinges are stainless, and the rivet in the arc-hinge is monel.

The calibration is metalic red on yellow, highly visible, and as precise as my steel rules...inches/16ths on one edge, centimeters on the other. The inch/16ths scale goes from left to right on one side, and right to left on the other.

The arc-hinge is calibrated as a miter gauge on one side, with detents or stops at 0, 45, 90, 135, and 180 degrees. The flip-side is a roof-pitch calibration.

There's a 1" long acrylic level bubble molded into one leg. Each leg is exactly 1" wide, and 1/4" thick. Open, it's a rigid 24" rule. Closed, it's 7 1/8" long by 2" wide by 1/2" thick.

My only complaint is that while the legs lock open, they don't lock closed, so they flop around a bit.

We'll see how it holds up in use.
