Hi folks! Well, the time is getting near for when I must haul Nordsee and start renovating. I'm currently talking to a marina in Gloucester that can do longer term on the hard 'storage' for me if I want to do my own work.
I was wondering, does anyone have recommendations? Nordsee is 60' x 16'4" x 70 tons
I will need to be on the hard for at least one year, and I would like to be within 1 hour of Boston.
Thanks much in advance folks. smile.gif

This is a possibility, might be slightly more than a hour drive, but my guess is the price will be better, and I know they will handle and be careful with wooden boats. Haulout can be done closer to their location to save transportation cost, they will know the best places.

60'x16'4"x 70 tons. Thats a lot of boat to be trucking around Ken.
I would look for a railway to haul her, maybe an out of the way commercial yard.

Tim, you might look up Paul Haley (Giffy Full and Associates) There's a link on the woodenboat links page. He'd be likely to know of possible sites. Another is Thad Danialson of Redd's Pond boat yard in Marblehead. He checks in here fairly often.

I would recomend Hinkley Yard/Little Harbour in Portsmouth R.I.It may be a little more than an hour but not much.I have been watching several renovations over the last couple of years there of good sized wooden boats (Esmarelda comes to mind). There is a lot of qualified help if needed and a good ships store too.Plus you would also get to be 10 miles from Newport .Ah Newport smile.gif

Good luck finding a good hauler. You might try Samples Shipyard in Boothbay, Me. or the boatyards in Rockland, Me. That is a big boat for do it yourself stuff. Most yards with heavy equipment will want to do the work themselves. Good luck finding a place. If you do find a good boatyard please let everyone know.

Thanks for posting that pic. smile.gif And thanks for all the advice so far. Its helping!
She is definitely a BIG handful, and I am likely going to be moving her down Gloucester way around 2nd week of June at this point.
First things first.. only structural repairs will be even thunk about until she is sound as the dollar. Thats going to be really hard to do, what with us crazy dreamer types, but my wife will lend me some perspective I think ;) She's all about finishing this is a reasonable amount of time, so no lollygagging for me. Ah well.
There are more pics, and I'll be doing a huge series of them once she is on the hard again. Here is a link to where the pics live:

I see special permits, pilot cars ahead/behind, etc. You'll make some trucking company very happy :D

Whoa there!
I don't know where you got that impression, but noway nohow is this boat going to be -trucked- anywhere. She is going to be making the trip from Rockland to Gloucester on her own bottom. She is seaworthy enough to do that, and was in fact being worked until 2 years ago.
Trucked?!?!! Gah! I'm not going to spend $20,000 to move the boat when I spent less than that ON the boat! smile.gif
She has a good engine, she floats and ships minimal water (about 2-5 gallons an hour) and her hull is sound below the waterline. She has working depth sounder, radar, and 2 VHF radios, and I am adding a GPS for the trip.
If she had to be trucked, I would never have bought her ;)
