Just got a question from a local wooden boat friend looking for 3-ply dacron cordage in the colour of manila. He emailed me because in previous discussions I remembered the name of this stuff and who makes it but the memory is phhfftttt. Anyone know name/source? Thanks. I'm going quietly nuts here.

Johannah,
I believe that the rope you are looking for is Hempex, by Marlowe.

Or perhaps, British Braids discussed here some months ago.

Corra, thank you for the reminder about Hempex. It looks quite authentic but is made of polypropelene. I tried a search to find the discussion on "British Braids" and nothing came up. Any other ideas?

Johannah,
The link you were looking for was from the man who posted above, Norm.
If you search for, "braided rope". His link should come up.

Roblon is another brand name. Dacron-poly mix, I think.

"British Braid" is very nearly right, but it's actually called "English Braid Buff Polyester".

Hardy Hemp is one brand that I';ve used and is very good - can't remember who makes it.
English Braids Buff Polyester is also very nice.
Spunflex is more shiny and not so good, again I can't recall who makes it but a google search will no doubt do the trick.

Buff polyester was reviewed in WB No. 164. A search of the forum on "buff polyester" should yield results here.

Thank you all! Wow, now I have way more information than what I forgot. Did a new search as recommended and have lots of references and sources to pass along around here (Philly and Jersey) as well as a "do-it-yourself" process for hempen coulour.
