I recently aquired a old diesel cabin stove (it came with my new old boat) and I have been driving myself insane trying to get it to operate properly. The carborator seems to be functioning properly and all the adjustments are pretty self explanatory and I've cleaned the burner and inside of the stove. The problem is that no matter what I do all I get is a yellow/orange flame and massive amounts of thick black smoke and soot. These things are known for being simple and reliable but I seem to be struggling for some reason. Please help it's driving me insane.

Give the "Galley" guy at Fisheries Supply a call. I think his real name is Dwight. He's a good source of info on diesel stoves.

The stove is from "Washington Stove Works" and it's an "Olympic Midget" model. Or at least thats what it says on the side of the thing.

I heat the burners of my kerosene rig for 3-5 minutes{just the brass parts} with a propane torch to make the brass hot enough for ignition. Voila! Nice blue flame. If I don't, yellow orange flame with terrible sooting.

Try the guy in Brooklyn at www.marinestove.com (http://www.marinestove.com) or call him at 718.486.8049

I met him at the wb show and he had some good ideas, especially about biodiesal (check the hot thread active now). Biodiesal apparently doesn't soot nearly as much, but jeez, it sure makes you crave french fries
