Does anyone know if a Sargent 407 is the equivalant of a Stanley #3 or #4 smoother?
SWMBO, bless her heart smile.gif , brought one home that she found at an antique store. It needs a bit of clean-up and a better blade might be nice, but nothing looks broken.
It's going to get used, not displayed in a nitrogen filled case.

This (http://www.azstarnet.com/~barkerj/FSmooth.htm) seems to indicate that the Sargent 407 is comparable to the Bailey #2. Is the iron 1-5/8"?
Do a search for sargent 407 plane and you'll find more info

Thanks, Jim.
Neat reference. I'm sorry I took so long to answer. I've been off work - my usual hangout.
Yes, that's about the iron's size.
