smile.gif Hey, Bob -

This may help. I don't know what was originally used to seal the canvas, but if you want to make a repair, or maybe recover the whole thing (?), the most popular material is Ambroid cement.

Check out this site: http://www.ottertooth.com/Canoe_pages/ambroid.htm

Hope this helps!

thanks for the reply Rich, i build wood/canvas canoes and am familiar with the ambroid. the canvas on this unusual canoe was treated with what feels like a wax/bear grease type compound. it is completely flexible as the canvas is designed to be rolled or folded when not on the canoe. the canoe breaks down into 10 separate sections for transport.

I'm good with questions, but not so good at answers.... is that the material known as "Irish Leather"?

Okay - I wasn't aware that the canvas came off - Hummm! Interesting canoe. I don't think I've ever seen one like this - who's the maker? I'd be really interested to find out what the material is.

Bob - So you've got one of them? Pretty neat looking idea. Did you see the one on eBay recently?

i did see the one on ebay and there is a pic of one one on the wcha website ads.. the canoe was built by link corp. of gananoque, ontario. same ones who built link trainers during wwll. the canvas appears to be a heavy duck. impregnated with a soft waterproof sealer. the person i got the canoe from mentioned barbours thornproof dressing but that would be a huge expense for a full sized canoe.
ps are we repeating ourselves here?

P.M.J. just posted a thread with some old recipes that might work......if you don't blow up in the process.
