I have an 18 foot wooden sailboat that I need to get from Newport News, VA to Boise, Idaho. I do not want to trailer it. Can anyone recommend a good hauling service that will take good care of a old wooden boat in pristine condition?

Don't know if they will do it, but try Passport Transport. They specialize in transporting antique cars.

Vincent, try www.associatedboat.com (http://www.associatedboat.com) They are in the boat transport business and in Washington but if they can't help they would be able to tell you who could. Theres an 800 number on their website.

I have contacted several boat movers and the best quote for transport from Maine to Louisiana came from LTM Boat Transport.
LTM Boat Transport (http://www.se-boat-transport.com/index.htm)
Use www.google.com (http://www.google.com) to search for boat transport companies. There is a central web page out there that lists several carriers. Hopefully, you can find a company that moves east and west.
One other thing, LTM Boat Transport carries boats on trailers on a 35'-40' gooseneck trailer. No wear and tear on your trailer.

I've used Don Peckham of Mount Pleasant Canoe and Kayak to transport an open water shell. He crosses the country regularly moving shells. Maybe there's room for an 18-footer.
