I would try a local scrap metal dealer, I'm sure they would have a piece to fit your needs, and at a far less cost than purchased new. Nobody's gonna see it anyways.

Local scrap dealers are certainly the first place to check but another online source is Metals Depot (http://www.metalsdepot.com)

Steel is usually easier to find, in the "hobby" sizes. Then you can put the real money into galvanizing.

My suggestion is to carry the required dimensions in your wallet. You'll be surprised at the number of canditate pieces you will run across if you keep your eyes open, pass the word and are ready to deal when the opportunity comes up.

There's an outlet near me that sells factory cut-offs and seconds. He apparently has connections a various manufacturere. You might call several fabricators in your area and ask them what they do with their cut-offs. They might not want to deal with you directly (liability, etc), but thay may be able to steer you.

Good luck.

Another option I have discovered is a welding place near me that fixes semi trucks and the like. The Milk carriers use stainless and he has sheet stainless and aluminum + stainless bolts in the bigger sizes. The prices to me seemed reasonable and he cuts it to my size - square so far, but I know he would do some machining if I requested - and paid. Still enjoy going there because it is just such a fun place with all the big machines I don't get to see much anymore. smile.gif

I got my aluminum plates at the camping supply store, they came as a set of 4, with 4 matching aluminum cups...
But really.... Look for a welding shop, or metal fabricator, They'll have all sorts of "scrap" lying around.
