Not the movie...The C clamp! I've tapped all my tool catalogs and can't find deep throated C clamps. The clamp opening only needs to be 3 or 4 inches but throat depth needs to be 10 to 12 inches. Thanks for any help

Is this for clamping laps? I think you have to build if you want those dimensions, for the most part. Walter Simmons at Duck Trap sells some lap clamps, but they cost. He also sells plans for his clamps: http://duck-trap.com/hardware.html

Building Small Boats by Greg Rossel also has some plans for lap clamps.

Yep, Walt's are easy to make. I used aluminum for the handle. Flat bar stock bent at ~30 degrees. Drill and tap a hole for the carriage bolt. Grizzly has some deep c-clamps with 6" reach. I bought a bunch of them for my Tom Hill "Charlotte". Rick

Look closely at the right side of the table saw, and you'll see a Wetzler clamp, which is essentially a C-clamp, with a 12" throat. Holzbt probably owns all of them that are in existence. ;)

HarborFreight has some 10s and 12s fer < $10.
Sorry I tried twice to put up the active link but it wouldn't take me to the "C-Clamp" page. WWW.harborfreight.com (http://WWW.harborfreight.com)
Put 'C Clamp' in the keyword hickey.

For fairly easy to make and pretty elegant one-hand-operated lap clamps do a search of the WB back issues for the "Brenne Clamp".

I don't know what Holzbt is doing in that shot but I sure hope the motor if off. I really try to keep my hand out of that left hand spot.

Jamie, he's using the circular saw to 'nibble' a decorative detail into the top end of a stem for a boat he's building. Actually, I think he did 4 of these stems, anticipating future demand, no doubt. :D

There's an album of the progress here. (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288742445)

Donn, how about a little hint for the password to view that album. It's password protected. :(

Steve: You go in with your Imagestation ID & password. Or, if not a member, click where it says "if not a member, click here".

Edit:
Or wait for Donn to fix it. (he's fast). smile.gif

Steven- That boat was put on hold while I worked an excesive amount of overtime at my "real" job. I hope to get going on it again soon. I'll have Donn take photo's of it.

Jamie- There is a fence at right angle to the blade through which it is raised. Similar to coving by running stock through on an angle and raising the blade in small increments each pass. My fingers were never within 6" of the blade and I don't see this operation as being any more dangerous than straight ripping.
