View Full Version : book help, please
I was a bit conflicted as to where to post this, as it is a bit of an out-of-the-ordiary request...
I read someone else's Chapelle's "The Search For Speed Under Sail" many years ago, and enjoyed it thoroughly. However, I never bought a copy for myself because there were so many other expensive texts I needed that were more immediately germane. A while back I acquired a copy of the book (a library discard in excellent condition - or so it appeared) and have begun reading it again. Imagine my confusion when I read to the bottom of page 54, "Probably this vessel had cedar top timbers in her frame, as did later Amer-..", switched my gaze to the top of the page opposite and picked up with, "The narrow beam is evidence of...". What the...?? Damn! Pages 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, & 60 are missing! They were either very carefully removed or this is a binding error, as there is no damage to the binding nor evidence of cutting or tearing. Bummer!
So, dear reader, is there anyone out there who has a copy of this book who can help me by photocopying the missing pages and mailing them to me?

The book was reprinted by Bonanza (a promotional reprint house) in 1967. It can be had for as little as US$12 from AbeBooks, but can probably be had locally for less.

I was hoping for photocopies so that I can reduce to book size and two-sided copy in one generation for minimal image degradation (there are fine line drawings on at least one of the missing pages), but I fully understand that beggars cannot be choosers. I will accept any format available to me.

I have a copy of the Bonanza edition. If all else
fails, come back to me with an e-mail and your postal address, and I'll send photocopy of the missing pages.

Thank you all for your prompt and generous replies. A forumite has contacted me off-line and offered to provide the missing pages to me. If for some unforseen reason he runs into difficulties, I will repeat my request, but for now let's assume that my request has been answered. Again, thanks, all.
