Can anyone tell me how rest the log's dials? Can you simply turn the arm's manually?
Thanks

Good question, sorry I don't know the answer. The glass doesn't open on the log I have, so you would just note the starting reading & subtract it off the end reading.

Interesting...I can open the glass on mine but have been afraid to move any of the hands...

I've always wondered if the hands are 'resettable' on the ones where the face opens, haven't found the answer yet though. smile.gif

I don't have a Cherub, and I would not use one on a boat, a Cherub is a big ship log, intended for merchant ship speeds.

I do have an Excelsior IV, which is the older yacht version (the Knotmaster is the more modern one, with a smaller, plastic, spinner.)

The hands are a friction fit on the stems; you undo the glass (unscrew the knob at the base) and push the hands round with a finger to zero them.

Only problem is that spare log fish are getting hard to come by. I picked a spare one up on Ebay the other day, still in its original wooden box packaging.

Since I inherited mine from my father, it must be 50+ years old, and so I can say positively that this has done it no harm!

Keep it dripping with oil and HAND THE LOG BEFORE YOU HEAVE TO, AND BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE.

Er, don't ask me how I know that...
