I'm looking for recommendations on machines that do three-dimensional carving. For carved trail boards, signage and maybe cutiing plywood boat patterns. Been working in the sign business a few years and thinking of starting up my own company. I'm looking for a system that's not too big (less than 8'), easy to use and economical. Need good tech support, too, since this phase of signmaking is new to me. (Anyone out there want to gussy-up their boat with a fancy carved name board?)

Don Chapman, a friend of mine, has been using one of these for a few years to make signs. His was connected to an old 386 computer, as I recall. He's quite a do-it-yourselfer, thus I imagine he put most of his together. I think he has a Shop-Bot. His home number is 512-281-5488. The e-mail for his wife, Susan, is s.chapman@mail.utexas.edu. Perhaps she could pass on questions to him or give you their home e-mail address.

Thanks, guys. I once saw a Shopbot at the WoodenBoat show, about 5 years ago I think.
