View Full Version : Resinous Pine?

I'm planking an Adirondack Guideboat with white pine and I have a few planking blanks that are very blond and somewhat resinous with little buttery translucent flecks. Sapwood perhaps? I'd never seen it that extensively before, especially as a couple of solid 6/4 planks. OK to make planks with it? Rot resistance is not a huge issue as this boat will be well finished and spend most of its time inverted on a rack.

She'll bleed sap for a long time . That might push off any finish you put on . Pine is my favorite wood to work with /look at . One of it's things is sap bleeding , I work around / with it . If you can deal with that , and I think all that sap is good , it's filling the pours of the wood , so in what I've worked with it bleeds some but is slowly becoming stable as it bleeds out, not a quick process , but steady . I'd think that would be good/ better wood as is drying slowly . That being said you decide what is best . I look for and buy different looking pine at the lumber yard , that usually means sap , I do let it sit for awhile , if I can , before I build something out of it . HTBH ;) PEG
