View Full Version : Beard trimmers.
I'm getting tired of having to buy new beard trimmers every 3-5 years. Who's got a good suggestion for a trimmer that's AC only, and has replaceable blades?

Got a real barber nearby? That's who I'd ask. Or a barber college?

Mr Wahl cuts my hair, but used as a beard trimmer I find the Wahl cutter head can bite my skin real hard. Something to do with the tooth spacing or profile compared to the beard trimmer I guess. Perhaps I should note that I do use the beard trimmer cutter 'point down' quite a lot, and that's what Mr Wahl takes exception to.What's your secret Dave?
cheers

Dave soaks his beard in Rum. It's a soft white beard to begin with. Mine's a hard silver, tougher than a twisted braid wire wheel on a right angle grinder. It's encrusted with beneficial garden bugs and salt-air, and blows up rechargeable trimmers. When the trimmer is plugged in, the lights dim in the rest of the house. I need a serious trimmer.

ROFLOL!!!
I am NOT even going to attempt to top that one O&O East!
I haven't used my WAHL in some time now. The local Portagese barber shop does very nicely for me. But, for the many years I did use a WAHL it was not the beard trimmer but the full clipper device with IIRC, #3 plastic add-on to the cutterhead.
HEY O&O East!!! How come you can accurately describe my beard hair texture?
HOOO you been talking to???

I use the commercial Wahl with a #1 all over the head (I guess the military made a short haircut believer outta me) and a number 3 on the beard....I do have a "heavy duty" wahl battery machine that does a passible on the beard but the big unit is sooooo much smoother..

I have a Wahl but I rarely use it. I think that a good sissors does a better job.

I used to stall my fancy Braun razor when it hit my chin smile.gif
If you want cheap and effective, get a small Wahl or Andis trimmer. Best place is a dog grooming catalog, to tell the truth--they're all the same anyway, and they seem cheaper. They've got replaceable blades in about 30 different sizes. You'll probably want a surgical trim blade, designed to shave supershort, if you are trimming your neck (though to tell the truth razors work better for getting down all the way to skin). Besides, if anyone asks you why your beard is trimmed funny you can just bark at them.

Pet trimmers or dog shears, from (gasp!) Sears, have been cheap enough to make it ok to replace them every decade or so. But I only use them once a month, if that :D .

For regular shaving, I Got the Gillette M3 Power razor. This is the BEST tool for shaving in the world bar none. And since I shave my whole head I should know :D
http://www.gillette.com/men/digital_library/images/m3power_beauty_med.jpg
Check out the website experience :D

New From Gillette
Gillette M3Power -- a MACH3 innovation. The first Micro-Powered Shaving System from Gillette, for a totally new shaving experience and Gillette's best shave ever.
Micro-Power - Gentle micro-pulses stimulate hair up and away from skin. In just one power stroke, you can get a closer and more thorough shave. So thorough, there is less need to reshave, which means less irritation.
New PowerGlide Blades - Patented blade coating produces Gillette's smoothest blade surface for incredible glide…and a level of comfort that only M3Power can give.
Indicator Lubrastrip with Vitamin E and Aloe.
Shower safe.
1 Duracell AAA battery included.
2 M3Power Cartridges included.
BTW I'm so surprised that no one made any mention to the beard forum I just laughed my self silly that they had one - then when I looked through it kinda freaked me out that people would be so into their beards. I wonder if people think we are weird with a forum about Woodenboats

Heh! Heh! Beard forum gave me a laugh! I've had some sort of beard since 1965, started red but now grey.
Mostly trim my own with scissors (BLUNT POINTS!!) but sometimes the barber. Even if he, or I stuff it up it grows again. Wish my hair would.

Can't really help on this, but I'm bored and thought I would chip in.
I've got a Sam's Club special that I've had for several years now. The wife usually puts on the #2 guard and gives me a haircut (once a month) and than I take the guard off and shave my face. Than it is to the bathroom and time to use the Mach 3 razor, and I'm done.

I've got an Andis I've used since 1999. Not the cheapest, but not their bet either. Definately not a battery job. Works great. haven't replaced anything. I do oil the head (trimmer's, not mine) every time I put it away, but I don't know if it realy helps that much.
