Does anyone have any idea where I can get a small bronze nameplate deeply engraved (by a router)? I purchased the nameplate from the WoodenBoat Store for a boat that I just finished. All of the engravers that I have checked with in the phone book can only etch the surface with a diamond stylus or laser, although the plate is fairly thick at approx. 1/8". Thanks for any information.

I bought the same nameplate from WB for my Fiddlehead. I had it engraved by a jeweler. I don't know what method they used, but they did a fine job. Being that the nameplate is only 1/8" thick, the engraving does not need to be made "deeply," at least not any deeper than a diamond stylus would engrave.

I had mine done by a guy who's doing engraving on custom made rifles and shot guns. $20 out the door.

Look in the yellow pages of your local phone book under Machine Shops. Call and ask if they have or know anyone that has a Deckel.

Thanks for those three ideas. I would not have thought to call jewelers, gunsmiths/engravers or machine shops, but it makes sense that someone in those lines of work would be able to help me out. Thanks again!

If the tips above don’t pan out in your area try a trophy shop. I used one once to do some engraving for me.
