Splining/partial

Hello. I'm new this forum, and kind of new to wooden boats, so forgive me if this subject has been covered before. I'm considering the purchase of a 34' ketch, 1 and a half inch mahogany planks on steam-bent oak frames. Everything seems to be in pretty good shape, but the previous owner splined down to the waterline only-opinions? Also, she is fastened with copper ring-nails-seems like I've seen this in small boats, but not in one this big before...thanks for any help!

Excellent construction, repairable below the waterline where it's most likely to need it, and a smooth, tight topsides for esthetics. Most would probably find copper nails with roves preferable to even bronze screws.
