It looks like I'll be needing to add a boarding ladder to my boat in the next month or so (I think Meer wishes I already had one). SWMBO's 85 year old mother will be out, and I can't let her use "The Meercat Boarding Technique".

Other than ABI, does anyone know of a good source for the hardware? I've been less than happy with most of ABI's products. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Or, does anyone have a good design that doesn't use unique hardware?

You might try Toplicht. I'm sure they have it, although you might just be buying ABI from them! Actually, a lot of their stuff is from Davey and Co., London. Toplicht has a web site. Google them. Their catalog is very entertaining, even it it is all in German!

The boat is a salmon troller conversion. It's roughly about 5 feet from gunnel to water. The location will be symmetric.

The hardware I've seen comes in a kit. Here's a link to the ABI hardware. (http://www.abimarine.com/catalog%20pages/deck/catalog%20page%2015.htm)

I'm still set up to fabricate bronze.

Run the hardware design you like by me, buy silicon bronze strapping from Alaska Copper, and come by some weekend and we can make your ladder.

Shop-made gear'll look much better on a troller than that yachty stuff, anyway.

I've also a pile of bronze work boat pad eyes (round eyes) I'll never use all of....cheaper (than strapping) bronze rod can be flattened and drilled for mating to the ladder but left round where it hooks into the pad eye.

Did you check eBay already? There's a couple of boarding ladders there presently.

I'm just going with a rope ladder with teak rungs. I don't have space for a solid ladder. I'm sure it would be a good workout for your mother smile.gif

Thanks everyone. I think I'll take Bob's offer. I'd love to see his shop anyway.
