Does anyone out there know if a supplier of bronze thimbles exists? I am looking for both heart thimbles and round thimbles to fit small line from 1/4" to 3/8". I have located the pieces in galvanized steel but not bronze.
By the way, if you haven't had the chance to look through a Davey and Co. catalogue, do so. There is some really neat stuff available from this company from bollards to old fashioned furling gear. e-mail: chandlery@davey.co.uk

I don't know where to get thimbles these days but I saw a good substitute made from copper pipe. Just cut a short length, place on the round face of a ball-peen hammer (chucked in a vice), place the ball of another ball-peen hammer in the open end and smack with a third hammer - instant thimble!

Thanks to both of you for the informative replies. I think I will make them out of copper tubing as per your suggestion Frank. Sounds fun.

You be damn careful hitting one hammer with another. If the hammers are any good, chips will fly.
