Rebuilt Tool Batteries

I have 2 Milwaukee 12 Volt Driver/Drills purchased in about 1995. The batteries have gradually gotten weaker. I have followed the instructions for keeping them charged as outlined in the instruction manual. Finally it was a joke coaxing them to work.

I did some 'net' crawling and found this outfit,
Voltman Batteries, a power tool battery rebuilder.
For a flat fee of $30 USD each they rebuilt my batteries and had them back to me in just 7 days.
They include a 90 day warranty also.
I charged the batteries up and tried them vs. a newer one that I borrowed from my son,

As good as new, or so says I.

Price comes out to just about 1/2 of a new one.
I'm happy.

On the rebuilt subject - just heard a great argument for rebuilt tools in general i.e. -

Rebuilt by a human being on a workbench (albeit assembly line) vs the current robotic mass production....

The thing that's scared me a bit about rebuilt tools is that the company shops that sell them seem to have LOTS of a very few models. This suggests to me that those models have genetic defects that cause lots of 'em to fail. Why would you deliberately pick the especially troublesome model?

With a factory authorized rebuild shop there is a good possibility that a rebuilt will have parts that have been redesigned because of an original poor design, so therefore should be better than the original. I've found this to be especially true with automotive parts, get replacement parts from the dealer not from auto parts stores, on numerous occasions the new parts are an obvious better design and frequently a lower price than aftermarket parts.

Dave, does Voltman have an email address or a phone number?
When it was time to replace my PC drill's batteries I was livid at the price. Costwise it'd almost make sense to throw out the drill and buy a new one. What an apalling waste :mad:

You might want to also try "Batteries Plus" - a chain that sells batteries, and rebuilds as well. Give it a google. I've had good results with my local franchise.
